Prior to setting up my own business as CareerWays I was the Connexions Adviser for Alder.

During February and March this year Connexions were making redundancies in line with the government cuts. I took voluntary redundancy as I wanted to work directly for the school and deliver a flexible, professional and efficient service to schools and meet their individual needs.

The new Education Bill states that schools are required to secure their own independent careers guidance for the universal service. Tameside Connexions will continue to support the more vulnerable pupils.

In April 2012 – the government will introduce their new all age careers service which will be known as “The National Careers Service”.

I will be in Alder for 2 days a week (usually Thursday and Friday) and as well as careers interviews I will be involved in all aspects of careers education, information and guidance and will support to pupils with their transition to post 16 options. I will also be available to support parents and carers to help their children to make positive choices.
