On Friday 18th July we will be celebrating our final We Are ALDER day of the academic year.

We have organised for an ice-cream van to attend school on this celebratory day. Ice-creams are priced at £2.50; students will have the opportunity to purchase these during the day. Our normal brunch and lunch service will be available for students and the day will also follow the same timings as any other school day.

Year 7: Altered Book

We are delighted to be joined by well-known author of children’s books, Tom Palmer. Tom will be working with the Year 7 students in designing a book cover, reading and answering students' questions. He will also be supporting the altered book blurb competition. Students will also be completing a sensory circuit. We have organised for an ice-cream van to attend school on this celebratory day. Year 8: Our Chosen Charity

We are excited to announce that Year 8 will follow the inspiring theme of ‘Our Chosen Charity’. The day will begin with a special assembly led by the Mayor of Tameside, setting the tone for a day of learning, teamwork and community spirit. Students will take part in three fun outdoor challenges: the Human Chain Relay, the Loudest Cheer, and the Donut Dash, all designed to build excitement and collaboration. Throughout the day, students will join interactive workshops where they’ll meet representatives from various charities, learn about their work, and, in groups, plan and write a powerful pitch for their chosen cause. The whole year group will then vote to select the charity we’ll support this year. We’ll round off the day with more fun activities for everyone to enjoy. We’re looking forward to a fantastic day of learning, fun and making a difference together!

As the day involves both practical and creative activities, Year 8 students are permitted to wear their Alder Community High School PE kits.  No jewellery should be worn.

Year 9: Being Our Best Version

We are pleased to share that Year 9 will have a day themed ‘Being Our Best Version’. To help students develop teamwork, communication skills and positive relationships, the morning will feature a series of team-building activities, with sessions tailored by gender. These activities will focus on working together, effective communication with peers, student voice, healthy relationships, and leadership skills. In addition, girls will participate in an inspiring workshop delivered by an external agency called ‘Am I the Drama?’, which aims to empower them and encourage self-reflection. The day will conclude with a wellbeing session led by Kooth, supporting students’ mental health and providing strategies for emotional resilience. We are looking forward to an engaging and supportive day, helping each student be the best version of themselves.

Student opting to stay in school

For Year 10 students who have opted to remain in school, we have arranged a series of valuable workshops to support their personal and academic development. Students will take part in sessions focusing on essential study skills, reflect on their recent work experience, and have the opportunity to work towards the nationally recognised IDEA Award, which develops digital and enterprise skills. In addition, students will attend revision lessons in maths, English and science to help reinforce their learning and boost their confidence in these core subjects. We are committed to ensuring that every student benefits from a productive and engaging day.
