Help your child explore their future options

We're delighted to offer Year 10 students the opportunity to attend college taster days at three local colleges this summer. These visits are designed to give your child a real insight into college life and help them start thinking about their next steps after leaving Alder Community High School.

What are college taster days?

College taster days allow students to spend time at a college, explore different subject areas, meet tutors and current students, and experience the college environment first-hand. It's an excellent way for your child to see what post-16 education could look like and help them make informed decisions about their future.

How does my child sign up?

Your child will be able to choose their preferred subject areas through form time activities at school. Please don't worry if they haven't decided what they want to study yet – they should simply pick subjects that interest them or that they think they'll enjoy. This is all about exploration and keeping options open at this stage.

Important dates for your diary

Tuesday 23rd June – Marple Sixth Form College taster day
Tuesday 30th June – Tameside and Clarendon College taster day
Thursday 2nd July – Ashton Sixth Form College taster day

Please note: Students will need to make their own way to and from the colleges on these dates. We'd be grateful if you could ensure your child has appropriate travel arrangements in place.

How will the tasters days benefit my child?

These taster days will help your child to:

  • Experience what college life is really like
  • Try out subjects they're interested in
  • Ask questions and get advice from college staff
  • Make informed decisions about their future
  • Build confidence about the next stage of their education

There will be more information to follow via Class Charts but If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's form tutor.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child plan for their future.
